At a meeting called by Deputy Commissioner (Gurgaon) Rajender Kataria on Wednesday, the concessionaire for Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was pulled up for insufficient safety measures, which has led to over 110 deaths on the 27.5-km stretch since it opened in January 2008.

Also present at the meeting was the family of Rahul Anand, who was killed in an accident on the Expressway in March. Kataria asked ADC Praveen Kumar to probe the matter and submit a report by Thursday.

The DC also maintained that the concessionaire had failed to provide even the mandatory safety features, emergency medical aid, emergency telephone numbers, sufficient foot over-bridges and underpasses for pedestrians. “It seems that the concessionaire is not interested in adopting any measures other than collecting money,” he said.

Sachin Sharma,vice-president (operations) of Jaypee DSC Ventures Ltd,also gave a presentation on the steps taken by the company. He could not, however, give satisfactory replies to the queries posed by Anand’s family members and the district administration. When asked why safety measures were not in place,Sharma waived it off as not being part of the agreement.

Lambasting the concessionaire, the DC asked them to ensure the adherence to norms in a time-bound manner, failing which the top officials of the company would be booked.
