The stage was dimly lit, there were a few props, and the performers were wearing all-black costumes. The theme of the play was peace and mindfulness and the performers were all 10-year-olds,students from the Shriram School,Delhi.
This was just one of the plays and performances that were showcased as part of the three-day Vasant Valley School Drama Festival, that concluded in August 26. The festival, which completed 20 years this time,is an annual event for junior schools of the Delhi/NCR region.
Headmistress of Vasant Valley School,Rekha Bakshi, said,The best thing about this festival is that it is not competitive, and so,everyone is a winner. We just want to encourage their creativity and we have been doing so since 1992.
Wah! Baat Ban Gayee, the theme for this years festival, inspired varied interpretations in the plays that were staged over three days.
The children from the 15 participating schools scripted and performed around the given theme. Each day ended with an interactive session between the children in the audience and the performers.
The plays were also interspersed with dance and musical performances by Class III-V students, which the parents who were there to cheer their children, seemed to enjoy quite a bit.
