Court says its an abominable offence as he obliterated line between man and animal.
A city court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his mother after she refused to let him into the house in an inebriated state.
Before pronouncing the judgment,Additional Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Dahiya said Nand Kishore,a resident of JJ Colony in Dwarka, had obliterated the line between man and animal.
Kishore earlier faced trial for allegedly murdering his father. He was acquitted in the case, but his mother barred him from entering the family house.
The court said Kishore did not deserve any mercy because any leniency shown to him would be misplaced as the Supreme Court, too, has held that any leniency in matters of sexual offences is not only undesirable but also against public interest.
The court said the abominable offence is too heinous to deserve any leniency.
Kishore had sought leniency on the ground that he was the sole earner for his family and has two children to look after.
The prosecution had sought the maximum punishment for him, saying moral values in society would deteriorate if he was given a lesser sentence.
Kishore had entered his mothers house in an inebriated state on May 3 this year and when she asked him to leave,he said he would teach her a lesson.
The prosecution said he raped his mother and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm. But the woman managed to lock Kishore in the house and call police.
She told the court that he is an alcoholic and did drugs and his wife left him because of the harassment she faced.
The courts are expected to impose sentence which reflects the conscience of society and the sentencing process has to be stern where it should be, the judge said. He said the sentence should be punitive and preventive.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Kishore. The money will go to his mother as compensation.
