As many as 10 hospitals in Gautam Buddh Nagar did not have a fire No-objection Certificate (NoC), an inspection of 50 government and private hospitals by the fire department revealed, an official said Monday. The defaulters have been issued a reminder to get the necessary documents.

The drive began Saturday in the aftermath of a massive fire in the state-run Maharani Laxmibai Medical College Hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi Friday that claimed the lives of 11 newborns.

“Among the 10 hospitals are Super Speciality Paediatric Hos-pital & Post Graduate Teaching Institute; Gautam Buddh Nagar District Hospital; ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) Hospital. Water seepage in the Paediatric Hospital can create a problem for the fire system installed, he said, adding, “The building has no smoke detection system, and exhaust fans are not connected with the electric motors. If there is ever a fire inside the building, it would be very difficult to save lives. There is no proper way for the rescue in such a case.”

A letter was also sent to the hospital director to fix the installed fire system. “This was the sixth reminder to the hospital.”

Paediatric Hospital director Dr Arun Kumar Singh said the fire officers’ team flagged certain safety measures that were not maintained. “We have been given 15 days. We will get all of this fixed at the earliest,” he said.

The district hospital also lacked similar measures. ESIC hospital, the CFO said, has no firefighting system in place.
