To make Delhi government officials more sensitive and citizen-friendly, Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday directed government officials to hear citizens’ grievances and hold public hearings.

Jung asked all the principal secretaries, secretaries and heads of departments to be available in their offices from 11 am to 1 pm every day, except Wednesday, to meet the public, listen to their grievances and redress them.

He also asked them to share the information pertaining to the important issues and work done by their departments for dissemination to the public through the Directorate of Information and Publicity. “Departments having large public dealings have been asked to share information twice a week,” a government official said.

This includes Delhi Jal Board, municipal corporations, New Delhi Municipal Council, power, education, transport, food and civil supplies departments, etc.

Jung has asked the chief secretary to issue circular in this regard, mentioning the date and time scheduled for the public hearing and also submission of the reports of major decisions, activities, achievements pertaining to their departments to the chief secretary and Director, Information and Publicity, once a week.

The chief secretary has issued instructions to officers to streamline the system and officers will share information pertaining to important activities done by the department at least once in a week with DIP. In case, no work has been done by the department, they will give a ‘nil’ report on the day assigned to their departments.
