JNU students protest UPSC age cut-off

A signature campaign is currently on at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against a recent notice of the Union Public Service Commission which sets the eligibility date for taking the examination on August 1. Students say that “the date excludes the candidature of many students who are waiting for their last chance.”

In a letter addressed to V Narayanaswamy,MoS DoPt,the students have said that “the problem with this cut-off date is that it excludes candidature (of those) falling short of age. The last chance (for some applicants) is lost because of their ages fall short by some days or months.”

Ghanshyam Das,a research fellow at JNU who started this campaign, said,“If they shift the cut-off date to May 1,2014 instead of the present August 1,2013,the issues of a lot of students applying in their last chance will be solved.”
