Nod for offline classes at JNU from Monday, DU stays online

The new order from JNU comes after the Delhi Disaster Management Authority Friday allowed higher educational institutes to resume physical teaching and learning activities amid declining Covid cases in the national capital.

All authorised canteens at JNU will also be allowed to function at 50 per cent capacity from 8 am to 11 pm.

Authorities at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) permitted schools and centres to resume offline teaching and learning activities for students from Monday. On the other hand, Delhi University has issued an order stating that online teaching and learning activities will continue.

The new order from JNU comes after the Delhi Disaster Management Authority Friday allowed higher educational institutes to resume physical teaching and learning activities amid declining Covid cases in the national capital. Crucially, an education department official said that the requirement for institutes to maintain 50% of classroom or laboratory capacity at any given time will be done away with.

JNU has not yet issued any notification on what the policy is with regard to its hostels. According to JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, a students’ union delegation will be meeting the Dean of Students over this on Monday.

According to the university’s order, deans and chairpersons of various schools, centres and special centres may resume offline teaching, learning and academic activities from Monday. JNU will be made fully functional with staff attending their offices at 100% capacity.

“The head of the schools/centres/special centres shall call the students in such numbers and manner, taking into account the available space/ infrastructure/ facilities of their schools/centres/special centres, so as to ensure that the Covid-appropriate behaviour (viz wearing a mask, maintaining of social distancing, regular handwashing etc) is complied with at all times in the schools/centres/special centres,” reads the order.

All authorised canteens at JNU will also be allowed to function at 50 per cent capacity from 8 am to 11 pm.

The city’s night curfew, from 11 pm to 5 am, will be operational on movements of individuals on the campus as well. During the curfew, campus gates will be closed and residents have been instructed to not move within the campus.
