Jamia Millia Islamia staffer arrested for stalking, harassing student

According to police, they received a distress call on Sunday at 9.30 pm that a woman had been harassed and molested near the college’s gates.

Purported videos in the aftermath of the incident were shared widely on social media. In the clips, the woman can be seen approaching the man asking, “Why did you do that?”. She then said, “He punched me on the chest.”

Another video showed the man surrounded by university students. He then received a slap across his face.

Student organisations of the university alleged that the incident took place in front of the college’s security guards.

“… The student was left visibly shaken and distressed,” a statement from one of the organisations read.

A representative of the organisation also alleged that the man had been stalking the woman for some time before he took this action.
Sources said at first, the woman, who was concerned for her safety, did not wish to register a complaint. Later, she filed one on Monday morning.

Police said they have booked the man under BNS sections 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 75 (sexual harassment).
