Four years ago,in May 2008,her husband was sent to Dasna Jail, accused of the murder of daughter Arushi and domestic help Hemraj. On Monday,Nupur waited to find out if she too would end up in Dasna.

Sessions judge Shyam Lal rejected her interim bail plea, making it clear that Nupur would have to spend a night in Dasna Jail, for the first time.

At 4.30 pm,when the verdict was announced, family members surrounded her, hugging and consoling a visibly upset Nupur. Her brother-in-law Dinesh and husband Rajesh were near her, telling her to be strong.

Dasna Jail superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said Nupur will be treated like any accused.

“She will be kept in female barrack number 13. All security arrangements are in place, but she will get no special treatment. Her living area will be basic — equipped with a fan and a common television, which the other inmates too have an access to,” said Sharma.

Dasna Jail houses 1,517 inmates, and Nupur will be sharing the barrack with 68 other women. In her cell, there will be three other inmates.

“When she enters the prison, she will be given a pillow,a mat and a plate for food. She will have to use the common bathroom, which is used by all the 68 women in the barrack,” a jail official said.

For dinner,Nupur was to have roti and dal. In the morning, she will be served tea, dalia and buns.

“She will be woken up by the sound of a common bell at 6 am. That is,if she sleeps at all,” the official said.
