Over a cup of coffee, theatre veteran Sohaila Kapur and Vishal Verma,of SLAP on the Greasepaint theatre group discovered a lacunae in the Delhi theatre circuit, and accordingly decided to give theatre enthusiasts in the capital a taste of horror, one of the lesser-explored genres. Today, the American Centre on KG Marg will witness the premiere of their latest production — dramatised play readings of two of American horror writer Stephen King’s short stories titled The Ledge and The Mangler.

Directed by Kapur,Stephen King on the Prowl,a 90-minute-long performance will ensure that the audience has a spine-tingling experience, thanks to the use of spooky sound effects and other multi-media gimmicks. Actors dressed as vampires and hooded in black will walk down the aisle while flickering candles and wreaths of white flowers will add to the eerie feel. “We are leaving a lot to the imagination, since that’s how horror works best, but there will also be a fair use of props,” says Verma.

The two short stories will be play-read by Bobby Desai,S Sathish,Sohaila Kapur,Vishal Verma and Shikha Pahwa with multimedia projections in the background setting the tone for the evening. “I have been a fan of horror and supernatural since childhood, but this is my first attempt at staging it. I am quite excited by the prospect,” says Sohaila Kapur.

After the premiere at the American Centre, the team will showcase their production at the Gymkhana Club later this month.

The play starts at 6:30 pm. Entry is free.
