Whats it about? Sometimes when asked difficult personal questions,a little lie will not hurt. Unless youre on the game show Sach Ka Saamna, and your lie is detected by a sophisticated machine. The Hindi version of the popular international show The Moment of Truth has already put contestants on the spot. The challenge is simpleanswer 21 increasingly personal questions honestly,as determined by a polygraph, and win up to Rs 1 crore. Prior to playing, participants are strapped to a lie detector and asked a series of questions by a polygraph expert, who records their answers. Questions range from simple ones like Have you ever served stale food to your guest? to more difficult ones like Have you ever thought of having sex with another man as long as your husband doesnt find out? At any time, between the polygraph and the televised game, participants can change their answers or walk away from the competition.
Whos in it? Televisions blue-eyed boy Rajeev Khandelwal is the hard taskmaster on the show and does an impressive job of keeping the contestants calm through difficult questions. He looks dapper in his new avatar, with a slightly overgrown mane. Contestants on the show range from housewives and teachers to businessmen who battle for moolah, but what we all want to know is if it will really be worth it?
Whats hot? The English version of the show was known for its relationship-breaking premise; looks like even this one will live up to it. The contestant on the first episode decided to answer every question. Is she jealous of her younger brother? Yes. Does she think her mother is always partial towards her children? Yes. Has she ever thought of killing her husband? Yes. But then she lost all on the twelfth question, losing all her money. It is this surprise or shock element that keeps the viewers gripped
Whats not? While the show has gripping content, the sets are a bit so-so with neon bulbs flashing all around. The show is also too sensational, with the camera panning overhead before the right answer is announced. The womans voice making the True or False announcement with long pauses is especially annoying. Also, sometimes the questions get so personal,it becomes humiliating for the guests.
Should you be watching it? It may be a bit of a culture shock for those who havent seen the English version, but its time to try out some new content on TV. Fans of the international version wont be disappointed.
