Prashant Verma unleashed military chic to the tunes of American Psycho and Arnie
A 120-pound wrestler is threatening to thrash everybody in the room, while somewhere a dictator rips off his shirt to show off muscles and tissue. Not letting creativity die a sad death, the maverick designer Prashant Verma unfurled a show of aggression and violence with his Fall 09 collection Meat on Day Two of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Twenty-nine models pounded the ramp in thick kneepads, baseball helmets, stretched jerseys and military uniform to a seemingly awed crowd.
Distinctly divided into three sections, the show began with images from Arnold Schwarzeneggers bodybuilding blockbuster Pumping Iron and progressed to models walking the ramp in patent leather jackets paired with printed leggings. Recession fears certainly havent affected this designer,as was evident in the excessive use of hide. Part two of the show saw models marching in khaki jackets to Christian Bales lines from American Psycho. Quilted overcoats and printed robes with images of athletes dominated the ramp. While the collection drew a mixed response from the buyers, designers Manish Arora and Rohit Bal were all appreciation. Verma took the bow with model Tinu Verghese padded up like a wrestler, ready to rip off the skin.
