HCL engineer arrested for stealing bag at South Delhi pub

Upon receiving the complaint,the police scrutinised the CCTV footage at the club. “The footage showed Shukla taking the bag and making his way out of the discotheque,” a senior police officer said. “The stolen mobile phone had its tracking system activated,which proved helpful in the course of the investigation.”

Police sources added that Shukla withdrew Rs 6,800 from an ATM centre at Kashmere Gate using the complainant’s card. “Shukla had no difficulty in withdrawing money from the victim’s account as the pin number was mentioned on the cover of the ATM card,” police officers said. After using the ATM card,Shukla disposed of it,along with her passport,in Kashmere Gate area.

Following extensive interrogation,Shukla was arrested on Monday evening and the stolen items recovered from his possession.

“When interrogated,Shukla could offer no reason for committing the crime. A software engineer,he was getting an annual package of around Rs 3 lakh from his company. He is not a regular offender. The reason seems to be the need for easy money to fund a lavish lifestyle. He frequently visited pubs and discotheques and spent a lot of money on these pursuits,” police sources said.

A case of theft was registered at the CR Park police station and the accused was produced before a city court on Tuesday. Further investigations are on. Shukla stays in Mukherjee Nagar area of North Delhi with his friends. His family lives in Lucknow.
