HC rejects plea seeking security for CM

Arvind Kejriwal is no longer an aam aadmi but a khas aadmi and should be given protection,

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday disposed of a public interest litigation filed by a Delhi lawyer seeking orders directing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to accept security.

This came after the Central government assured the court that security was already
being provided to the Delhi Chief Minister.

“He is no longer an aam aadmi but a khas aadmi and should be given protection,” advocate Anoop Prakash, who had filed the plea, had argued.

The court of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, however, said the court could not force Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal to agree to protection if he did not wish to take it.

“He is the head of the state. It is his responsibility to protect everyone in the state. He is aware of the consequences of his decision. How can we tell him to take security if he is refusing it?” the court said.

The counsel for the government then informed the court that policemen in plainclothes had been deployed for the Chief Minister’s protection.

The Central government also submitted the security details of Kejriwal to the court in a closed file and stated that the Chief Minister was presently being provided Z category security cover by police.
