Advising home quarantine,a top South Delhi school granted a weeks leave to one section of Class IX after a student tested positive for the H1N1 virus. The student,a 13-year-old girl,reached Delhi from London on July 23.
As of now,25 students from the Capital have tested positive for swine flu. Authorities at Vasant Valley Public School have sanitised the school premises and buses,Arun Kapoor,the Vasant Valley principal,said.
We have asked students to stay at home and will ensure all students use tissue paper instead of handkerchiefs. All classrooms will have sanitizers. Teachers of that class have also been asked to undergo tests, Kapoor said. The school also has distributed leaflets on dos and donts related to swine flu.
Meanwhile,Health Secretary J P Singh has said there is no reason to panic. Though we have had 23 cases reported from schools,the government is not planning to disrupt their routines. Most students are well on their way to recovery and our team of doctors have worked hard to contain the spread of the infection, he said.
So far,132 persons have tested positive for the H1N1 virus,of which 102 have been treated and discharged,he said.
Of the 25 infected students from various schools in the city,14 have been discharged. All the students are responding well to the treatment, Dr Anjan Prakash,spokesperson for the Delhi government,said.
The school authorities are in touch with government health officials,who will be closely monitoring the situation.
