The Delhi Parks and Gardens Society set up by the Delhi government in April last year will soon chalk out a plan to categorise parks in unauthorised colonies for childrens amusement and recreation.
Following a meeting at Raj Niwas on Thursday,Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna, the chief patron of the Society, has directed it to begin re-categorising parks in unauthorised colonies.
The members of the Society, including the chief minister, mayor and other officials of the civic bodies, discussed the matter at great length and figured that there is a paucity of parks for children in unauthorised areas. Parks in rest of the city are categorised fairly well, a senior official at Raj Niwas said.
The L-G has directed the Society to click photographs of all parks to document their state of upkeep,he said
The Society has also been asked to look into the matter of community parks being used for weddings and functions, the official said.
During the meeting,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit reportedly emphasised on the need to demarcate the ridge area and rid it of encroachments.
The Society will develop compost pits in local parks and gardens.
