Harpal Saini, father of the deceased, said that Amit had been working at the site for the last 10 days. (Representational)A 19-year-old labourer was killed and seven others were injured after part of a roof in an under-construction mall collapsed in Ghaziabad on Monday, police said.
Officials said the incident took place at Gaur Aerocity in Sikandarpur outpost area under the jurisdiction of Teela Mod police station in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The deceased has been identified as Amit Saini, a resident of Manota village in Amroha.
“The lanter of second floor fell on the workers at midnight. A total eight workers were injured, one of them critically so. They were immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared Amit dead. After some time, all the injured were admitted to Yashoda Hospital and their condition is stable,” said Siddhartha Gautam, ACP, Shalimar Garden.
He further said that an FIR under IPC sections 304-A (Causing death by negligence) and 288 (Negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings) has been registered against a construction company, Aditya Infra Pvt. Ltd., and a contractor named Rajesh.
“We have initiated an investigation to determine if there were any lapses in safety protocols at the construction site. A decision on arrest will be taken at a later stage. We do not have any information if any compensation has been announced by the company,” said the ACP.
Harpal Saini, father of the deceased, said that Amit had been working at the site for the last 10 days. “He was doing the shuttering work at the construction site. He received injuries after the entire shuttering and lanter fell on him and he got buried under the debris. My son died because the shuttering for the lanter, prepared by the contractor and the construction company, was faulty due to which it collapsed,” said the father.
