For Children,By Children

Known for his socio-political slant,Premchand’s stories have always been a vehicle of creative expression. This time it’s focused on children. A workshop,Bal Rangmanch Karyashala 2013,organised by Delhi Government’s Hindi Academy, had 10 schools in the city as participants. From June 20-24,at the LTG auditorium, plays will be staged by children,as a culmination to the month-long theatre workshop.

This is the first time that the academy is holding such a workshop to introduce children to the writer’s work. They have made attempts to include contemporary ideas within the stories, without tampering with their essence. Apart from Idgah, which revolves around a child and his grandmother,Lottery shows how greed can bring about disaster in a family, while Boodhi Kaki brings home the message of caring for old people.

Harisuman Bisht,Secretary,Hindi Academy says,“Hindi literature is incomplete without reference to Premchand. Through this workshop,we aim to convey the message that Hindi literature is vast and Premchand stories are still relevant in today’s context.”

The plays will be held from June 20-24 at the LTG auditorium,Copernicus Marg, from 6pm

onwards. Contact: 23389713
