Fixing meters on Dwarka tanks to measure supply: DDA to HC

On October 30 last year, the court had ordered DDA to install flow meters on all borewells.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is fixing water meters on all borewells and command tanks in Dwarka area to measure the amount of water being supplied to the residents of the Southwest Delhi sub-city.

The information was submitted to the Delhi High Court on Wednesday following directions from the court to install flow meters as residents had filed PILs alleging that supply to the area was inadequate.

The DDA also told the bench of Justice B D Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva that the work of fixing meters, as ordered by the court, is likely to be completed in three months at a cost of over Rs 77.50 lakh.

“The work of fixing water meters has been awarded, according to a letter dated January 9, 2015. Work has been started by the concerned agency and order has been placed for purchase of water meters. The work is likely to be completed by April 18, 2015,” the DDA affidavit said.

On October 30 last year, the court had ordered DDA to install flow meters on all borewells and at the inflow point of command tanks.

The DDA had informed the court that 11.25 kilo litres of water is sent from 10 borewells to Command Tank 4 every day. However, it did not have details of the amount of water being supplied from Command Tank 4 to residents.
