The Bal Jagat programme of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has film screenings spread across five days at National Bal Bhawan. The films will introduce children to our rich cultural heritage, says Mangalam Swaminathan,Programme Director,IGNCA. Regions in the country have been represented in these films.
Mahakumbha In search of nectar is about the gathering that happens once in 12 years while the film Ganga a celestial journey from Mukhba to Gangotri captures the journey of the Ganges from Mukhba to the Gangotri temple. Boatmen of India Koli from Maharashtra highlights the coastal lifestyle of fishermen through their rituals,celebrations,folklore and song,and a documentary on the Garo tribe,Wangala A Garo Festival,celebrates the Northeastern festival.
The film screenings (which began on June 18) are part of the summer programme and is open to the public. The Bal Jagat programme is an attempt to reach out to children from Delhi and NCR with a special focus on children from underpriviledged backgrounds and government schools as they dont get as many opportunities as children from private schools, said Dipali Khanna,Member Secretary,IGNCA.
The screenings are being held at 11am at National Bal Bhawan,Kotla Marg till June 22.
