(Representational/Pixabay)A 35-year-old farmer in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district allegedly strangled his wife and then died by suicide late Tuesday night. The bodies of the couple were found a short distance away from their house in Allipur Milak village and their six-year-old daughter was found sleeping near them early Wednesday morning, the police said.
The police identified the man as Munesh Khadakwanshi, a contract farmer in Baghpat district, and said that he had earlier contacted the police helpline twice, claiming that four people had cornered his family to murder them. “Our primary investigation has revealed that the family was not intercepted by four people,” Manoj Pratap Singh, the in-charge of Kotwali police station in Amroha, said.
The police said that soon after Khadakwanshi’s call seeking help, a team was rushed to his house in the village. The police team left after they learnt that the couple and their youngest daughter had gone to Khadakwanshi’s sister’s house on Tuesday morning, leaving two children at home.
Hasanpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deep Kumar Pant said that in his call, Khadakwanshi had named his brother-in-law as one of the four people who had cornered him. It was this brother-in-law’s house that the family allegedly visited on Tuesday morning. “When we checked the mobile numbers of those named, we were told that two of them were out of the district at the time when Munesh claimed that they were cornered. We suspected foul play,” DSP Pant said.
DSP Pant added that the initial inquiry has revealed that Khadakwanshi murdered his wife Pravesh, 30, and then died by suicide. “We have lodged a first information report (FIR) at Kotwali police station against unidentified persons. Our inquiry is ongoing and we will reveal the truth soon,” he said.
