Facebook page wants Jagdish Mukhi as CM candidate, others in BJP cry foul

With other contenders for the post upset with the campaign, Mukhi was quick to come out in defence of the Facebook page.

A retired Delhi University teacher, Jagdish Mukhi is a five-time MLA and has also served as finance minister of Delhi.

With Harsh Vardhan elevated to the Central Cabinet, the race is on for the post of BJP’s chief minister candidate in Delhi. Now that fresh polls are in the offing, intense lobbying has begun for the post and one name that is doing the rounds is that of senior leader Jagdish Mukhi. Sources said his “supporters” have started a full-fledged campaign on his behalf.

A Facebook page was recently launched with the tagline, “Our wish to see the deserving and right man on right chair, I support Dr. Jagdish Mukhi as next CM of Delhi”. The page has been named as Dr Jagdish Mukhi for CM Delhi.

With other contenders for the post upset with the campaign, Mukhi was quick to come out in defence of the Facebook page.

“Every supporter wants that his leader should become the CM. My supporters too have wished for the same. I cannot stop them for wishing something for me. It is their wish,” Mukhi said.

Senior leaders in the party, however, alleged that Mukhi has launched a campaign in his area to project himself as next CM candidate, irrespective of the fact that the Assembly is still in suspended animation.

Sources said leaders are in fact trying to lobby for the post of leader of the BJP legislature party, a post Harsh Vardhan is yet to vacate, as it eventually converts to the post of CM candidate.

“It is very unfortunate that with Delhi likely to go to polls, crucial posts are occupied by a leader who has become a Union minister. With the future of Delhi in limbo, every group within the party is trying to secure these posts. The more the delay, the more party will lose ground in elections as we have witnessed earlier,” a senior leader said.
