A retired 80-year-old Railway employee and his wife were found strangulated to death inside their residence in Hapur,Ghaziabad,on Monday.
The neighbours of the deceased Ram Prasad Bana and his wife Murti Bana (75) discovered the murders when the couples domestic help alerted them after getting no response to her knocks when she arrived at the house in Srinagar Colony around 12.55 pm.
Captain M M Baig,SP (Rural) said one of the neighbours then jumped on to the terrace of the couples house. The terrace door was open. Inside,he found the couple lying dead on the floor, he added.
The police added that while the couples belongings were found scattered on the floor, the purpose of murder seems to be other than loot. No expensive belongings seem to have been taken. The entry to the house was friendly. We suspect the murders were committed by someone close to the victims, a senior police officer said. The couples son Anil Bana,an engineer residing in Sahibabad, has been informed.
SP Baig added: The couple must have been murdered late at night. According to the neighbours, they opened their doors only to close relatives and acquaintances. We suspect the murders may have been committed due to personal enmity or for property. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and a case of murder has been registered at the Hapur police station, said Baig.
