Eight more city forests,millions of potted plants and beautified drains Delhi is set to get greener ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
In a review of the Environment and Forest department on Wednesday,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the new city forests would come up at Garhi Mandu,Jagatpur,Ayanagar,Gadeipur,Rangpuri,Daurala,Malikpur and Ambrahi.
As first reported by Newsline,six million potted plants,to be procured by various civic agencies,would be placed near the stadia and various intersections in the city. Also,along the 34 km of the dirtiest drains the Burari and Najafgarh drains bougainvilleas will be planted by BSES,NDPL,Shriram Industrial Institute of Research and Ch. Atma Ram Model School.
The Environment department said it would complete a boundary wall around the Central Ridge before the Games to protect it from encroachments.
Meanwhile,Dikshit called to intensify the drive to crack down on the banned plastic bags.
