Easy win for Lakhani

Third seed Isha Lakhani didn’t have to spend too long out on court for her first-round match against compatriot Sonya Dayal on Monday.

Third seed Isha Lakhani didn’t have to spend too long out on court for her first-round match against compatriot Sonya Dayal on Monday. She conceded just three games on her way to a 6-2 6-1 victory for a place in round two of the $10,000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournament at the DLTA Complex,and will take on Australian Renee Binee for a quarter-final spot. In her first-round match,Binee defeated Sweta Kumari Solanki 6-2 7-6 (1).

Treta Bhattacharya also made it to the second round after defeating Aishwarya Aggarwal 6-3 7-6 (3). Shweta Rana,Shivika Burman,Radhika Jadhav were among the Indians who fell to their opponents in the first round. Jadhav couldn’t win a single game as she was dealt a double bagel by seventh seed Korean Yoon-Young Jeong. Burman also crashed out against a Korean player,with Jung-Yoon Shin needing only straight sets to defeat the young Indian 6-2 6-4.

In doubles,top-seeded pair of Ankita and Sanaa Bhambri were beaten by their first-round opponents Rushmi Chakravarthi and Chun-Yan He,with the Indo-Chinese pair winning 6-7 (7) 6-4 10-8.
