Three children were grievously injured after they set fire to a dynamite trigger,mistaking it to be a firecracker,on Tuesday evening. Another child escaped with minor injuries.
According to the police,the children found the device used to trigger dynamite in a garbage dump in the vicinity. The children are residents of Jamai Colony in Bhadkal village. The police said the dynamite is used for blasting rocks apart in the Aravalli Hills.
The children Praveen,5,Sonu 5,Manish 6 and Dilip were playing near the colony when they noticed the triggering device in the garbage dump. They mistook it for a firecracker and set it on fire,the police said.
The trigger exploded as soon as it was lit,seriously injuring Praveen,Dilip and Sonu.
Locals rushed the children to a nearby private hospital that referred Dilip to Safdurjung Hospital in Delhi due the nature of his injuries. The other three children have been shifted to B K Hospital in Faridabad.
A case has been registered against unknown persons at the Surajkund police station.
During their search,the police recovered two more such triggering devices in the garbage heap. We are investigating the source of these explosives, investigating officer Ajit Singh said.
According to the villagers,this is not the first such incident in the neighbourhood. About six months ago,children from Sainik Colony here had set a garbage heap on fire while playing,which resulted in a blast that injured five children.
