If Facebook began as a Harvard sophomores prank (its first avatar was meant to track the univs hot women),Delhi University too has got its own social networking site, but with no controversy attached. Network DU is a smart mix of applications available on Facebook and Orkut and its creator Honey Arora hopes to get the entire university connected through the site. At the IITs and IIMs,the alumni help their juniors get internships and job placements. Network DU aims to do something similar. Besides friends,a student will be able to get in touch with the alumni of the university through this portal, says 20-something Arora, who is a student of Punjab Technical University, but chose to open a portal for DU because he felt its students were tech-savvy.
It has Facebook-ish applications and facilities such as Status Updates and Like and Comment and even an I Dont Like option as well, and lets you upload photos, videos and links. Theres an online shopping link called DU Bazaar. Theres also a blog, forum and a poll section where students can comment on a range of topics, from ragging to the latest movies. The site also contains useful information of hostels and PG accommodation near the campus and is open to both DU students and alumni alike.
