While Mexcio’s most famous poet,Octavio Paz’s memory lives on at his sprawling house in Delhi’s Prithviraj Road, where he also met his French wife,Marie-Jose Tramini in the 1960s, in the heart of Connaught Place, eight circular light boxes placed at a gallery at The Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish cultural institute, reminisce the visual poetry of the Nobel laureate. “Eyes of Water”,an art exhibition inspired by the verse of Paz is on display at the Instituto Cervantes. It’s the first exhibition to open at the cultural institute (the new building is located at Hanuman Road) by Spanish artist Rufo Criado. “The title alludes to Paz’s poetry which was the take-off point. The boxes are colourful elements that emanate light,” says Criado, based in Burgos,Spain.

Through digital tools,Criado has created a language of line, colour and composition, transferring these on the plastic surface of the box. The round shape of the boxes allude to the eyes, says Criado, who began the project in 2007. The same year, the works were displayed in Naples and Palermo in Italy. The light boxes drew references to rose and stained glass windows that illuminate ancient cathedrals.

The exhibition is on till July 17.
