The Big Apple has always been known for the hot dog kiosks that line its sidewalks. But now you can relish a similar experience at Khan Market. Tucked in the middle-lane of the market,the logo of the American Hotdog Factory a hot dog drizzled in mustard sauce stands out from afar. The fourth outlet of the brand in the city,it is the first which is located outside a mall and follows the concept of a roadside kiosk,dishing out hot dogs in a bun in a jiffy.

The menu is a modest selection of seven hot dogs (four in the non-vegetarian and three in the vegetarian category). If you stop sneering at the concept of a vegetarian hot-dog,you might quite enjoy the Crunchy Garden (Rs 89). It comes in a six-inch hot dog with a vegetable patty,topped with American relish (a kind of pickled vegetable) and some sauteed onions as garnish. The California Veggie Special (Rs 89),on the other hand,a soya bean frankfurter,can easily be mistaken for a chicken one.

One can choose from a variety of sauces as toppings,ranging from the zingy mayonnaise to the Milan garlic dip (strongly recommended if you are ordering a side platter of French fries),the green chilly sauce to the cheese and chilly dip. But if you are a purist who would rather not camouflage the flavours with a combination of sauces,then the Original American hot dog (Rs 99) is something you can opt for. The evenly grilled chicken frankfurter topped with the American relish is sinfully delicious,thanks to a drizzle of mustard. While the New Yorker (Rs 119) with a grilled jumbo chicken frankfurter and the American All-Star (Rs 129) with its cheese and herb chicken frankfurter are good alternatives,the Spanish Chorizo (Rs 159) with chorizo rings,relish and sauteed onions is undoubtedly the star attraction. The chorizo is fresh and crisp,and its salty twang is tempered to a pitch with a mayo and mustard dressing.
