District and sessions court to hear Gopal Kandas bail plea
The hearing in the bail pleas of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda and his employee Aruna Chadha has been transferred from a fast track court to a regular one after the High Court dismissed charges of rape and unnatural sex offences against the duo last week. Kanda and Chadha are being tried by the court for abetting the suicide of a 23-year-old former air-hostess in MDLR airlines. The airhostess allegedly left a note citing sexual harassment by Kanda and Chadha as the reason behind her suicide. The case being tried in a fast track court for sexual offences has been transferred to the court presided by District and Sessions Judge S.K.Sarvaria. Both Kanda and Chadha,in judicial custody since last year,have applied for bail.
HC reserves Amod Kanths plea in Uphaar case
The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its verdict on a plea of former IPS officer Amod Kanth against the 2010 trial court order summoning him for allowing extra seats in the Uphaar cinema hall,where 59 movie watchers died in a blaze in 1997. Justice P K Bhasin reserved the order after hearing arguments from counsel of Kanth and Uphaar cinema victims,on whose plea the trial judge had summoned Kanth on August 12,2010. Kanths counsel argued that the former IPS officer cannot be tried for allegedly allowing extra seats in Uphaar cinema as sanction to prosecute him was not procured.
Cancer awareness at Delhi University colleges
With the aim of raising awareness on various aspects of cancer,the Pink Chain Campaign started with support of eminent oncologists from AIIMS,New Delhi,Tata Memorial Hospital,Mumbai and other institutes will soon reach around 40 colleges in Delhi University. The campaign will involve lectures and interactive sessions. A documentary on breast cancer will also be screened.
