Rise of the rebels

Some rebel candidates have formed a new party in a bid to dent the BJP’s chances during next year’s Assembly polls. It is learnt that they’re going to attack the BJP’s pre-poll promises and manifesto. But many politicians scoffed at the rebel group, saying it will not be able to do any harm to the BJP. They said most of the rebels do not have any standing even in their own wards.

Delhi University sends several notifications and guidelines to its colleges and departments every admission season . Most of these documents are sent via email and the postal service. Some are delivered by messengers. But often colleges claim not to have received the notifications. Recently, when a South Campus college was asked about the university’s directions on reserved category admissions,an official said it had “not received any notification”,adding: “Wait, please don’t mention that in the (news) report. The university has pulled us up for telling the media that documents have not been received. The university officials claim that the letters are dispatched, but we do not get them on time.”

An IPS officer in Noida visited Great India Place,a mall,to buy a gift. Unable to find a place to park his car,he left his private vehicle in a ‘no-parking zone’. The five were removed from duty the next day.

Reel first,real later

When a city court ordered that terror suspect Zabiuddin Ansari be handed over to the Mumbai ATS,the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate had to direct the Delhi Police on “transportation”. Mumbai ATS did not have vehicles to transport the high-security prisoner. So an inspector requested the CMM to direct the Delhi Police to Ansari and the ATS team a lift “till the airport”. Since cameras were not allowed on the court premises, several cameramen covering the event requested Delhi Police Special Cell officers to bring Ansari out of the court so that pictures of him being “transported” could be taken. The officers obliged and the cameramen left after shooting Ansari “in a police vehicle”. The terror suspect was, however, taken away an hour later.

A Crime Branch inspector was caught in a unusual situation while probing the case of a woman being harassed over the phone. On receiving the complaint, the inspector called up the man from his office landline and warned him. The caller,it seems, took offence and began calling up Crime Branch 15-20 times every day, asking for the inspector. He was subsequently arrested.
