Safety starts at home
When a team from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) landed at the residence of a suspected patient to collect samples for tests, the family was shocked to see the doctors dressed in,what they called,‘space suits’. While the NICD is ensuring its officials are protected against any infection; the doctors, nurses and junior staff at government hospitals are rather unhappy with the arrangements for their safety. “Why should I risk my life to get a suspected patient to the hospital,” said an ambulance driver, refusing to ferry a patient to RML Hospital.

Word wise
While Commissioner of Delhi Police Y S Dadwal may be proud of holding a record number of meetings with SHOs and inspectors during his tenure, some of his subordinates seem upset with a few of his comments. During one such meeting,Dadwal’s statement that all his officers are “corrupt” shocked many. “He said ‘all of you are corrupt’. He must have referred to some black sheep in the force, but saying this while the hall was crammed with all SHOs and inspectors could be understood otherwise as well,” complained an inspector.

What’s the hurry?
Summer vacation for the employees of the district courts in the Capital is always a much-anticipated and welcomed event. Probably this is the reason the last working day at district courts always concludes on a hurried note as employees try to rush off as soon as possible. This hullabaloo, however, needs to be checked, feels the District and Sessions Judge looking after the administration of work. Recently,a circular distributed in the trial courts directed all court staff to wrap up properly and keep all case files and important documents in the cupboards under lock and key, before they leave for vacation.

Best buy
Some in the DDA are of the opinion that the recent agreement, signed between DDA and Emaar-MGF,developers of the Commonwealth Games Village, may work in favour of the land owning authority. A section of the agreement stipulates that Emaar hands over a list of all unsold/unbooked flats to the DDA,so that the authority can choose which 333 flats it wants to purchase. Naturally, all flats with better view are likely to fall in the DDA’s kitty!

Caught on camera
Along with tape recorders, the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) sleuths have also started using small cameras while conducting sting operations. Though, for Inspector R C Meena and ASI B S Meena of Moti Nagar police station just safeguarding against the ACB was not enough. The two had allegedly demanded bribe from a few persons, threatening to implicate them in a false case. They had arranged to take the money late in the night, when the chance of an ACB raid was minimal. The cops, however, not only landed in ACB net,but were also filmed, though not by the ACB. This time,it was the complainants who used a hidden camera and recorded the proceedings themselves.

Odd numbers
Former Union minister Rao Inderjeet Singh being dropped from the Central Cabinet has shocked many Congress leaders, particularly supporters of the Gurgaon MP.
What has come as a bigger surprise is that despite having elected nine Congress MPs to the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, the state’s share in the Union Council of Ministers has gone down. Kumari Selja is the only minister this time.

Armed controversy
The alleged passage of an armed US national,56-year-old Sellemeyer Larry from Arizona, through the Indira Gandhi International Airport has raised massive security concerns.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, which has initiated an inquiry into the case, says it is difficult to go by what Larry said during initial interrogation.
Senior officials say first,it needs to be established if Larry was actually carrying the loaded pistol and 35 rounds of live ammunition with him when he left the Delhi airport for Chennai on May 27. And if that is established, say officials,Larry’s offense will be a major security breach on part of the authorities, not just in Delhi but also in the US,who allowed him to carry the arms and ammunition outside the country, that too without the required documents.
There are also some senior officials who think Larry might be an undercover security agent of the US or a sky marshal, for the country to have allowed him to carry loaded arms to India without check.
