* Total number of criminals arrested by the Delhi Police in 2008 – 1354.

* 37 criminals with rewards on their heads were arrested in 2008. Among them were Brijesh Singh and tender mafia don Anil Sharma; each had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their heads. Among the other arrests,one criminal carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh. Sixteen criminals carried a reward of Rs 50,000,while six had a reward of Rs-25,000 on their heads. The rest carried a reward of Rs 10,000 each.

* Fifteen gangs were busted by the Delhi Police in 2008. A few of the major groups are Om Parkash alias Bunty’s gang. Also arrested were members of the gang operated by one of the most wanted inter-state dreaded gangsters,Mainpal alias Dheela.

* 24 desperate criminals operating in Delhi were also arrested.

* Six Bangladeshis were also booked by the Delhi Police for their involvement in several crimes last year.

* The police also claimed to have solved at least 19 important cases,which took place in the national capital in 2008.

* In Delhi,out of 891 murder cases,842 (95 per cent) of the accused had no past criminal record.

* With regard to the educational background of those arrested in 2008 for various crimes,90 per cent were either illiterate or school dropouts. 2.14 per cent were graduates/professionals and the rest were educated up to Class XII.
