Delhi Police has begun a de-stress training programme for families of police personnel who stay away from home for long periods while on duty.
According to an official order, station house officers (SHOs) have to be in the station at night and are allowed to meet their families only once a week. Families of such officers have often complained to senior officials about the hectic schedule, which caused them stress as well.

Taking notice of the complaints, Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma had asked the training unit of the force to constitute a five-member team “who will be taught de-stress techniques”. Once their training was complete, the team visited police colonies and organised workshops and counselled families of officers who cannot visit home frequently.
Sources said the stress management classes began on May 25. Special Commissioner of Police (training) Kishan Kumar said, “The classes were held in police colonies. It was a day-long programme.”
“The team held yoga classes and provided other forms of therapy to families. They also conducted social activities for them,” said a source.
The programmes for the remaining colonies will be conducted in the coming weeks, said sources. There are as many as 20 police colonies across
the city.
