The Bryan Adams concert slated for Tuesday was cancelled after the Delhi Police refused to grant a No Objection Certificate to organisers of the show.
The rockstar, who had performed in Mumbai and Bangalore and is due in Hyderabad on Wednesday, remained in the Le Meridien Hotel throughout the day. An after-concert party was also cancelled.
In a tweet later,Bryan Adams said: Police have cancelled the New Delhi concert tonight due to public safety…
Police Commissioner B K Gupta said: We did not grant permission to organisers for the concert. The decision was taken in view of the chaotic traffic situation, presence of resettlement colonies around the venue, the fact that that organisers had oversold the number of passes and the inability to accommodate so many spectators.
For disappointed fans, there was still a ray of hope. Sujeet Jain of Netsurf Entertainment,in a statement, said the concert may happen on February 20 at an NCR venue that can accommodate 30,000 people. But that is a tentative announcement.
We are working towards finalising an alternative venue and date to re-schedule the concert since public safety is a priority. Unexpected rains, coupled with the overwhelming public response for the show, made the venue unsafe. Bryan Adams is keen to perform in New Delhi and not disappoint his fans, organisers said.
Fans were told not to go to the NSIC grounds for tickets. Details of the new venue, date and time will be available soon. Should customers choose not to attend the rescheduled concert, their ticket will be refunded. The process of ticket exchanges/refunds will also be announced soon, Jain said.
Police said organisers overstepped the limit of the number of passes to be sold by more than 4,000… the initial limit was 6,000… the grounds are not big enough to hold as many spectators.
