Hours after a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death inside a Delhi flat on Friday evening, three of the four accused were arrested, with the police saying that it was a revenge killing over a Rs 45,000 loan.
The incident took place at Hind Apartment in Narela’s Pocket 18 on Friday, the police said, identifying the deceased as Himanshu.
According to the police, the police control room received a call at 6.28 pm on Friday saying that a murder had taken place in the flat. When the police arrived at the scene, Himanshu was found inside the apartment he had been sharing with Sumit Kaushik for the past four months.
A police inquiry allegedly revealed that four men – Ravi, 30, Sahil, 24, Ashish, 26, and Akshay Khatri – entered the flat at around 6 pm, stabbed Himanshu multiple times, and then fled the scene. The police immediately launched a manhunt and within two hours, Ravi, Sahil and Ashish were arrested from various locations by teams from the Outer North District.
“The victim had been staying with Sumit Kaushik for the last four months. Kaushik’s son, Yash, knew Himanshu for the last year. On questioning, Yash said that Ravi had forcibly borrowed Rs 45,000 from Kaushik. Himanshu later visited Ravi’s house in Safiyabad and threatened his mother with consequences if they did not return the money. To exact revenge, Ravi and three others stabbed Himanshu to death,” Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer North District, said.
A bloodstained weapon and other evidence have been recovered from the scene and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the police said.
Former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the incident in a post on X, saying, “Another painful murder. Delhi is bleeding and the BJP government at the centre is sitting idle. How long will the people of Delhi tolerate such conditions?”
