Delhi fashion designer murder: Surrender to police after hopes to find cash fizzle out

According to police, the accused had purchased four knives and wire wrapped in cloth from Mehrauli.

Delhi: Fashion designer, security guard found murdered in Vasant Kunj, three detained “They planned to strangle the woman with the wire. However, the woman resisted their attack so they stabbed her,” the officer added.

When the three men accused of killing fashion designer Mala Lakhani planned the crime, they were hoping to raid her Vasant Kunj bungalow and make off with tons of cash and jewellery. However, they found nothing of value at the house, police said, adding that this prompted the men to surrender.

Rahul Anwar, Rehmat and Salim were arrested Thursday for the crime. “Rehmat, Rahul’s relative, got cold feet as he did not have enough money to escape. He convinced Rahul and Salim to surrender,” said a police officer.

Rahul’s father Mohammad Anwar said his son did not have a good relationship with the family: “He would often come home drunk and fight with us. So I asked him to stay away…”

Anjum Begum, Rahul’s mother, said, “My son earned a small sum, but he would give his three brothers and two sisters some money.” Police said the domestic help who was killed, had been hired by Mala’s father. “After Mala’s parents died, he started working for her,” an officer said. Mala’s sister lives in Gurgaon with her husband, while her brother lives in Goa with his family.
