Delhi: Citing CAG report, BJP says AAP govt spent more on ads than on schemes

The party (BJP) claimed that while Rs 54.08 crore was allocated to the Business Blasters Scheme, Rs 80.02 crore was spent on its promotion.

BJPDelhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said, “Why Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena have consistently avoided making the CAG reports public in the Delhi Assembly?"

The BJP on Tuesday presented figures from a purported Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the promotional expenses of schemes launched by the AAP-led Delhi government, claiming that the amount spent on advertisement was more than the money allocated for several schemes.

The party claimed that while Rs 54.08 crore was allocated to the Business Blasters Scheme, Rs 80.02 crore was spent on its promotion. Also, while Rs 1.9 crore was allocated to the Desh ke Mentors scheme, Rs 27.90 crore was spent on advertising it. Similarly, Rs 77 lakh was allocated for the Parali (Stubble) Management Scheme and Rs 27.89 crore was spent on its promotion.

Although, not more than Rs 20 crore was spent on building smog towers, the BJP said the report claimed Rs 5.88 crore was spent on advertising it.

Speaking to mediapersons, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said, “Why Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena have consistently avoided making the CAG reports public in the Delhi Assembly? Despite the court’s reprimand, the Delhi government has not tabled the CAG report in the Assembly, which clearly shows Kejriwal’s fear.”

“In 2the 021-22 financial year, while the country was battling Covid-19, Kejriwal’s government misused public funds for self-promotion under the pretext of these four schemes,” he added.

The AAP, meanwhile, dismissed the BJP’s claims. “The CAG report comes in a sealed cover and has not yet been tabled. Meanwhile, the BJP is using fake documents to push its narrative because it has lost the narrative war for the Delhi Assembly (polls)…,” it said.
