Live Out Loud allows people to express their feelings for loved ones with a flash mob performance
Nikhil Sawhney didnt know why his girlfriend of one year,Kalpana Joshi, left him and got engaged to another man. He was on the brink of depression when he found out that Joshi was still single. He was keen to clarify the matter, but was unsure if confrontation was the best approach. I was not about to give up on her that easily, and wanted to woo her back, says Sawhney who chanced upon the idea of a bindass experiment. I came across calls for entries to the new show on UTV Bindass,Live Out Loud. The concept of helping people express emotions using television as a platform interested me, he says.
Sawhney, with help from his friend Laxmee and Bindass Dance Squad of 250 people, organised a flash mob for Joshi at a Mumbai mall and danced to Chammak Chhallo (Ra.One) and Zoobi Doobi (3 Idiots). Did he woo Joshi back? Well, you have to tune in on April 28 to find out, he replies.
Starting this Saturday,Live Out Loud Its Now or Never is Bindass latest offering. Taking inspiration from the recent trend of flash mobs, the show will act as a platform for participants to let go of their inhibitions and speak their heart out with help from the Bindass Dance Squad,a troupe of 250 dancers.
The trend sparked off late last year when Shonam Kothari organised a flash mob at Mumbais iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, with people dancing to Rang De Basanti. Several flash mobs in Delhi,Zee Dance India Dances Dancemobs, against sexual harassment and female foeticide and so on instantly followed, making the concept popular among the youth as an expression of their feelings. Shalini Sethi,Head Programming,Bindass, noticed the rising popularity and in the process designed a new brand campaign for the channel. Its called Rest Less. Youngsters today want to live in the moment and this Live Out Loud gives everyone an opportunity to do just that to act at the moment, says Sethi. Going the smart mob way (organised and planned over impromptu),Live Out Loud will see a son apologise to his father, the comeback of a music band, patching up of best friends who had fallen apart,a couple proposing and so on.
The weekly show is being anchored by Pravesh Rana and Natasha Suri and will air at 7pm on Saturdays. Each of the 10 episodes will convey a different story and emotion. The Bindass Dance Squad will join the participant in making his or her surprise a success. These Live Out Loud moments will be spread across locations, such as swanky malls, streets,a beach or even a five-star hotel.
Uma and Gaiti, who worked on Rockstar, have been roped in for the choreography. While Uma feels that the show offers a liberating experience, one that goes beyond dance,Gaiti confesses that it offers its own set of challenges to get the act together, choose the right songs and steps, rehearse and present this musical. Things can go wrong at the last minute, and we have had to prepare two acts, the original and a plan B, reveals Gaiti.
