Respite is in store after three days of intense heat,during which temperature touched 41.7 degree Celsius on Monday ow,the Meteorological Department says,winds from the Northern region will have a cooling effect on North West India reeling under heat wave.
The maximum temperature on Wednesday was 37.1 degrees Celsius,a few notches below Tuesdays 40.5 degrees Celsius.
The heat wave has ended and the temperature has started dropping, B P Yadav,director of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD),told Newsline. However,no rain is expected in the near future.
Heat wave is defined as temperature that is around 5 degrees Celsius above normal. Delhi hit the 40-degree mark on April 14,and since then constantly touched the dreaded number,except a couple of days in between. Even the minimum temperature was 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal,reaching 27 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
April this year has been similar to March,when the maximum temperature remained above normal,except towards end of the month when scattered rainfall reduced temperature. However,the minimum temperature remained normal throughout the month. The mean maximum and minimum temperatures in March also remained normal 31.5 and 16.1 degrees Celsius against 30.0 and 15.4 degrees Celsius.
