A collection agent survived an attempt on his life in a moving low-floor DTC bus on Friday when an armed group of assailants tried to rob him of the cash he was carrying.

The looters could not get their hands on the entire collection of Rs 8 lakh, which the man had tucked inside the specially designed belt around his waist. They made away with Rs 11,000 in cash and some jewellery that he carried in a separate bag. The victim,Amlesh, was shot at when he tried to resist the robbery.

He was injured in the left wrist and is undergoing treatment at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

All four assailants then jumped off the bus and rode away in two motorcycles which were tailing the vehicle.

A police officer said the incident was reported around 5.15 pm on Friday from the New Delhi district’s Mandir Marg area.

Officers said the assailants got into the bus along with Amlesh,25,at Karol Bagh. An officer said: “Amlesh boarded the bus at 4.55 pm. The four assailants followed suit. Two of them sat right behind him and the other two in the front. At Veer Savarkar Marg near Gole Market, one of them pointed a gun at him and asked him to give up the bag. When he refused, the assailant shot him, snatched the bag and fled,” a senior police officer said.

The assailants were unaware of the fact that Amlesh had the money concealed in the belt. A colleague, who was accompanying him,was also carrying Rs two lakh in a similar belt.
