Classical singer’s house burgled

Burglars broke into the house of renowned classical singer Rita Ganguly on Safdar Hashmi Road earlier this week and stole antiques and mementos,including one gifted by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,police said on Friday.

Burglars broke into the house of renowned classical singer Rita Ganguly on Safdar Hashmi Road earlier this week and stole antiques and mementos,including one gifted by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,police said on Friday.

Officials said the incident occurred early on Monday. “Ganguly had gone to bed on Sunday night and when she got up the next morning,she found few things missing from her puja room. The room was located outside the house. We have interrogated her domestic help,among others,” said Additional DCP (New Delhi) Seju Kuruvilla. Police suspect that more than one person was involved in the burglary.

Apart from a copper idol of goddess Saraswati weighing 8-10 kg,the accused also stole a two-feet high silver lamp,an antique copper pot,antique copper round vessel and a copper candle stand.
