Naval Kishore (27),a resident of Malviya Nagar in South Delhi, was admitted to Fortis Hospital a week ago after he displayed symptoms of dengue.

“He tested positive for dengue on Saturday but has since shown improvement and was recently discharged from the hospital,” N K Yadav,MCD Health Officer, said. This is the first case of dengue reported from Delhi this year. Last year, two people died after getting the disease and over a 1,000 cases were reported from the Capital.

Yadav said that after Kishore was admitted extensive fogging was carried out in Malviya Nagar. Authorities also collected blood samples from other members of Kishore’s family to ensure they did have any symptoms of dengue.

Meanwhile, municipal bodies like the New Delhi Municipal Council and MCD have started a number of initiatives to prevent an outbreak of dengue in the Capital. The NDMC has alerted all high-rise buildings,RWAs and market associations on how to prevent mosquito breeding. The MCD too has written to all government offices to check breeding. Over 3,000 domestic breeding checkers have also been put into action by the MCD. These checkers will be required to conduct house-to-house inspections.
