5 women among 6 jailed for dacoity after water war
New Delhi: Five women of a family,including a 65-year-old,have been sentenced to a year in jail by a Delhi court on the charge of dacoity following a neighbours allegation in the wake of a row over getting water from a public tanker. A man,Sajid Ali (45),was also jailed. They are residents of Sangam Vihar in North Delhi. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Ali and Rs 5,000 each on the five women.
Drunk driver let off after day-long detention
New Delhi: A man sentenced to two days in jail for drink driving has been set free by a Delhi court after a day-long detention on the grounds that he was a first-time convict in a traffic law violation case and was the sole bread winner for his family. Additional Sessions Judge Sarita Birbal let off a resident of Indra Prastha Extension in East Delhi after a day-long detention in the courtroom and a fine of Rs 2,200.
Woman drugged and raped by her employer
NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old domestic help from Jharkhand was allegedly drugged and raped by her employer and his two friends in Rani Bagh area of Northwest Delhi last week. The incident came to light on June 20,after the victim approached Rani Bagh police and lodged a formal complaint. Police have arrested Shiv Ram,the employer of the victim,and are looking for his two friends who are absconding.
Jewellery showroom looted in Palam
NEW DELHI: A jewellery showroom in Southwest Delhi was looted of Rs 22 lakh cash and 22 kilograms of gold on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police,the incident occurred around 2.30 pm,when the showroom was closed for business for the day. A case has been registered at the Palam police station. We are exploring the possibility of an insider apart from investigating the case from other angles, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Amulya Patnaik.
DDA must make names public before draw
NEW DELHI: A city consumer forum has asked the Delhi Development Authority to make public the names of applicants for its future housing schemes before the draw of lots,so that various banks accepting applications on its behalf do not fail in forwarding them to it. A bench of District Consumer Disputes Redressal forum,headed by its president C K Chaturvedi,gave this direction to the DDA on a plea by applicant Birendra Bahadur Singh for DDAs 2008 housing scheme.
