Tax incentive policy gets MCD nod

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has approved the incentive policy for officials of Assessor and Collector department. The move,meant to hasten the process of bringing more properties in the tax net,will award 5 per cent of the tax paid to the officials who facilitate its collection. “To bring in more taxes,we approved the policy today,” said Yogender Chandolia,chairman of MCD Standing Committee. There will,however,be a ceiling on the inducement amount — Rs 1.5 lakh annual cap for an AZI or ZI and a Rs 1-lakh limit for senior officers like A&C and assistant A&C. Employees whose efforts result in increase in collection by Rs 50 lakh in a year,will also be given a certificate of merit.

MCD agrees to give land for MG Road widening

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday approved the transfer of its land near Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road to the National Highways Authority of India. The move is meant to assist the widening of the four-lane road to six-lane road. The Standing Committee of the MCD said it will transfer 110 sq m land within 1 metre width to aid the completion of the project. “The land belongs to an MCD school,but the civic agency can afford to give the NHAI a portion of the land because the school has a big campus,” said an MCD official.

40-year-old woman shot at in East Delhi

New Delhi: A 40-year-old Ghaziabad resident was shot at by two motorcycle-borne assailants in East Delhi around 8.30 pm on Tuesday night. The victim,Israr Ahmed,was shot in the stomach and is said to be out of danger at present. Police said a property dispute led to the incident. According to police,two men have been arrested in the case.

3 killed,2 injured as truck rams into car

New Delhi: Three persons were killed and two injured when a truck rammed into their car in South Delhi early on Wednesday morning. The incident took place near Mahipalpur around 12.30 am when the truck allegedly rammed into the vehicle,which was being pushed by some people as it had broken down. The truck driver fled the spot,leaving the vehicle behind. The deceased have been identified as Santosh,Vimala and her son Vicky and the injured have been identified as Tarun and Moolchand. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the truck driver.
