MCD planning to hike parking rates
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is planning to hike parking charges in areas under its jurisdiction.
MCD Leader of House Subhash Arya said that while a final decision is awaited, the Corporation is considering two proposals for revising its parking rates. Firstly,to follow the pattern of the New Delhi Municipal Council whereby areas are divided into separate categories based on their location, congestion etc with different parking rates,or,to introduce a uniform hiked rate for all authorised parking spots under it jurisdiction.
The idea is to end the menace caused by parking attendants, Arya said. The MCD recently submitted an affidavit on its current parking policy in the Delhi High Court after the court raised concerns over non-uniform parking rates. Following this we realised the need to revise our policy, he added.
The Corporation thinks a uniform parking rates will end the parking contractor scam whereby, contractors charge inflated and arbitrary amounts from residents. It will also offer the much needed decongestion of busy market places as more people will use public transport.
