Power Secy shifted,Chief Secy to hold additional charge
In the midst of a raging debate about the fate of power tariffs in the Capital,and the continuing problem of frequent power cuts,Power Secretary Rajendra Kumar has been given a new charge as Additional Commissioner at MCD with immediate effect. Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta has been given additional charge of power secretary. Sources said this is a routine transfer owing to the fact that many projects at the MCD need to be expedited. Mehta was the power Secretary in 2002 and is widely credited with ushering in power reforms in the Capital.

Top railway officer’s house burgled
Northern Railways Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Anant Swaroop’s house on the Panchkuian Road was burgled of jewellery and cash on Monday. “Jewellery worth Rs 2.7 lakh and around Rs 10,000 in cash was stolen. We were shocked as the house is in such a prime location and is usually well guarded,” said Swaroop,who is shifting to Geneva this month for his next posting. The police officers investigating the case said they have visited the spot but no yet registered a case. “We have not received any estimate of losses from the family and once we get it,we will file a case regarding the incident,” said DCP Central Jaspal Singh.

Metro guard shot at by drunk colleagues
A 25-year-old security guard,Manish Kumar,was seriously injured after allegedly being shot at by his drunk colleagues at the under-construction Jaunapur Metro station in South Delhi. The victim,the police said,was trying to stop his two colleagues from stepping on the track. Police said Raman Kumar (24) and Ram Prakash (35),of the same private security agency,were under the influence of alcohol when they shot at Manish at 1.15 am on Tuesday. “Manish stopped them when they approached the platform and he asked for their ID cards,” said a senior officer. Manish was shot in the violent scuffle that ensued,the officer added. He was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where he is recovering.

BRT corridor caves in near Moolchand
A small stretch of the BRT corridor near the Moolchand Hospital in Lajpat Nagar of South Delhi caved in around 6.50 pm on Tuesday resulting in a huge traffic jam during the peak hour. Traffic Police sources said the portion of the road has since been barricaded. They said repair work on the stretch will be done on Wednesday itself.

DTC helpline soon,says Transport Minister
Two years after the launch of its low-floor buses,the Delhi Transport Corporation is now looking to upgrade its services and launch a new helpline for commuters. While the DTC is yet to get a toll-free number for the same,according to Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely,the dedicated telephone service will be in place by the end of this month. The DTC is also looking at extending the services of the helpline towards providing information about bus routes and bus fares.
