New Delhi: Delhi was placed on high alert following serial explosions that rocked Mumbai on Wednesday. Police personnel fanned across the city to carry out intensive checks. “A tight security apparatus has been put in place. Senior officers are on the streets monitoring the security scenario,” a police officer said. Police presence was stepped up at public places like malls,cinema halls,parks,bus terminals and railway stations.

Youth shot dead at busy thoroughfare

Gurgaon: A youth was shot dead in the afternoon by three motorbike-borne youths,in front of the Trident Hotel near the busy Shanker Chowk area on Wednesday. The victim,identified as Digvijay,a resident of Kapasera and a native of Orissa,used to run a mobile store. The incident took place around 1 pm. Traffic police personnel who were on duty nearby rushed the victim to a nearby private hospital,where he was declared dead. Two live cartridges were also recovered from the spot.

23-year-old killed after minor spat

New Delhi: A 23-year-old man was killed when he objected to his neighbour’s children playing near his house in Nihal Vihar,West Delhi,police said. The victim,Suraj Singh,worked as a contractor with the MCD. Police said on Wednesday when Singh objected to the children playing in his courtyard,the accused entered into an argument with him. “In a fit of rage he picked up a stone and threw it at Singh. He died of head injuries,” said the officer. The accused,Balbir Singh (47),has been arrested.
