Land acquisition: HC gives temporary relief to Anjolie
Chandigarh: In an interim relief for artist Anjolie Ela Menon,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Haryana government not to change the nature of land use of the 14 kanals acquired from her in Gurgaon till December 8,the next date of hearing. Menon had alleged that the Collector has not replied to her objections against the states move to acquire her land for the proposed Sector 58 peripheral road in Masterplan 2021. The Haryana government,which acquired the land on the ground of urgency,has been asked to file its response to Menons petition and prove its urgency. The counsel for Haryana maintained that the state complied with all provisions at the time of acquisition and issued notices to Menon.
23 injured as fight breaks out in Tihar
New Delhi: As many as 23 prisoners were injured in a fight that broke out at Tihar Jail on Tuesday. The incident took place just as the inmates had returned from appearance at the Karkardooma court. Security officials had to intervene to stop the fight. The injured prisoners were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and given first-aid. Meanwhile,Nabi Hussain,a 21-year-old prisoner,allegedly committed suicide in the jail. Hussain,son of an MCD councillor,had been in prison for the past 18 months in connection with a theft case. His family has alleged foul play in the death and approached the police to investigate the matter.
