Two students killed,six injured as bus crashes into tree

GURGAON: Two children were killed,and six were injured,when their school bus crashed into a tree near Pataudi road on Monday. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle when he was ferrying students of Pathfinder School,Pataudi. Police said the students were headed home. Nisha and Hemant died in the accident,which happened around 4.30 pm. The injured students have been admitted at Orbit Hospital and their condition is reported critical,said Kuldeep Singh,SHO of Pataudi. Police said the family of the victims and injured have been informed. The post-mortem examination will be held on Tuesday.

Power supply affected in West Delhi

New Delhi: Several parts of West Delhi faced power cuts on Monday due to a technical fault in a 220 KV power grid in Najafgarh. A spokesperson of Delhi Transco said the fault occurred around 3.30 pm and took about two and a half hour to fix. “The cut was on a rotational basis and by our estimation no area should have been affected for more than 1 hour at a time. The fault has been rectified now,” he said. The power failure also affected the Nangloi water treatment plant. The Delhi Jal Board said water supply would be available only at a low pressure on Tuesday morning in several areas of West Delhi.

Government scraps Delhi Municipal Authority plan

New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet on Monday passed an amendment scrapping the formation of a Delhi Municipal Authority. On June 15,the Delhi Cabinet had first approved the draft Bill of the MCD amendment Act. The Bill had been sent to Home ministry for clearance. In the Bill,the government proposed division of the MCD into three different parts and setting up of a nodal body — Delhi Municipal Authority — to coordinate with the three agencies. The Home Ministry had raised questions on why such a body needs statutory powers and why can’t it operate under the existing Act. In face of the objections raised by the Home Ministry,the Delhi government was forced to carry out the necessary amendment.

Criminal case against Sajjan quashed

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday quashed criminal proceedings against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar,who is facing trial for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a particular community on March 11,2002. The court quashed the proceedings under the the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after the court was informed that the parties have settled the issue out of court and sought quashing of the FIR.
